—for my grandmother
it is almost too easy to turn every action into an ellipses these days. nanjing sun has always felt like a drum, the rhythm of the city flush against your sagging skin. beneath your balcony, the dust never settles. neither have you— perhaps that is why the beat of the city rings in your blood. this is the the last place. now: the only place. sometimes it seems like sky here snagged you, held you in a limbo you did not ask for. your children, they are tangencies of your prior life. you dream sometimes they are shooting out away, away, away to infinity, just as the smoke of the funeral drifted into the sky when your love burned. fear is an old friend, a dull friend now but when you open your eyes, you erase these thoughts anyways. the static thrums here, the buzz of television and constant chatter street bartering and yowls the alley cats too agile for your jaded eyes. but at 5 pm, they stretch five stories under the railing, anticipation manifest. you bring out cuts of processed ham, spin the unsharpened edge of a knife in your hand-- what used to be a possibility, a warning-- and hum godless prayers for these cats.
there are holes everywhere. in your smile. in your bones.
in this city of cork, the dust always falls; always rises.

------

this turned out unintentionally depressing /oops

so i haven't written anything (for myself, not for school) in many, many months-- basically forever. but i was inspired by an essay i wrote for an application last months and a poem i read. tbh, i think poetry might have been a better format for this but i'm not so comfortable with poetry and i still feel like this is a bitty heavy handed but everyone is there own biggest critic right?

Last month (right before Black Friday when the Lorac Pro was 50% off oh well), Lorac was on sale on Hautelook, so I jumped to grab a couple items that were at ridiculously low prices.

These past few months, I've been wearing makeup more regularly, so I'm trying to invest in higher quality products (hopefully at a decent price) rather than using a mish-mash of whatever's on sale at the drugstore. Or maybe I'm just trying to justify buying more makeup lol. I was super excited when they came in the mail this week. Even though both these items are small, they came in separate boxes (both from Nordstrom Rack), which was a bit odd... but I'm really happy with my purchase, so I wanted to share with you guys!

These aren't super exciting, but here are some pieces I'm vaguely eyeing for winter and fall!

1) Velvet Dress

My school has a Yule Ball in the winter and I really hope to get a dress like this to wear (as well as make myself dress robes) There's something so luxurious about velvet and how it feels and the way it reflects light and it always screams holidays.

2) Harem Pants

Elevated sweatpants. Need I say more.

3) Flannel

Actually, the more interested I get in fashion, the lazier I am about my everyday look, it seems. I've always wanted a flannel shirt since they seem so warm and cozy and I really want to track one down the season.

4) Thigh-High Boots

Ever since I've seen them in one of Jenn Im's videos, I've wanted a pair of these. They're just....edgy and cool and one of those things I never thought I would wear which means I should definitely wear it.

5) Classic Trenchcoat

Trenchcoats are also one of those things I've secretly coveted for so long but never get. But they're so versatile and elegant *drools*

6) Berry Lips

These have been so popular this fall and I'm really liking some of NYX's lipsticks!

For Black Friday, I'm also eyeing some of the sales on Urban Decay and Smashbox at Macy's to gift to friends and the LORAC palettes at ULTA.

Senior year has been a really big transition period in my life, but it's actually when I've been the most grounded I've ever been as well. Now that I know it's the end, branching out seems less intimidating. When I think back on things, I was always kind of scared of how people would react if I wore darker makeup, more embellished nails, dressier outfits. Now, I'm just whatever and I throw on whatever I think looks good. Which occasionally is sweatpants. *end random reflective moment*

Anyways, much love and I'll leave you with Taylor Swift's new release (her album is fantastic and I like that it's the kind of pop that isn't shitty even though I admittedly love shitty pop)

Just a quick thing that I got in the mail a bit ago but I didn't have the chance to post about it. Memeboxes are Korean Beauty Boxes that typically feature mid-to-high-end items. They've also worked with Pony, which is how I initially heard about them. I won a giveaway for some store credit so I was able to purchase this box for less than $10! I'm not affiliated with Memebox and this is the first box I've tried, and I'm pretty impressed!

Ahhhh the weather's starting to heat up lately ;A; But since my room doesn't have air conditioning, it encourages me to go outside and do things— lots of walking involved!

These past weeks have been hectic- filled with work, cooking, and lots of time outside. When it's hot, I'm really lazy about skincare, so I like products that are easy to use and multifunctional- which aloe is perfect for. I picked up this product because it was pretty cheap, but I've been pleasantly surprised by how much I like it!
